Have you had someone approach you asking if you’d be interested in a “business opportunity” involving selling jewelry?
Or perhaps you were invited by a friend or family member to a “house party” that involved discussing and buying fancy $5 costume jewelry?
Welcome to Paparazzi Jewelry – a multi-level-marketing company that sells, you guessed it, costume jewelry.
While traditional jewelry often fetches a high price, costume jewelry is inexpensive and highly popular.
Plus, it doesn’t have the many restrictions associated with traditional jewelry sellers.
This is where Paparazzi Jewelry comes in, providing opportunities for those looking to make extra money on the side with a part-time business as a “consultant” for their products.
Read through my in-depth Paparazzi Jewelry scam review to learn more about the company, its compensation plan, the pros and cons of joining, some alternatives that might work better for you, and if it truly is a scam.
What is Paparazzi Jewelry?
Established in 2010, Paparazzi Accessories (or Paparazzi Jewelry as many people call it), offers those who want to start their own home-based business a way to sell highly-prized costume jewelry.
The method of selling is up to the participant as they can hold house parties, go online, use word of mouth, or the many other ways people come up with to sell their products.
They offer a wide variety of costume jewelry that sells for a very low price of $5 each.
This makes it easy to keep track for distributors and tempting customers into purchasing several items at once.
Paparazzi Jewelry Starter Kits
The starter kits offered by Paparazzi Jewelry begin at $99, $299, and $499.
They come with marketing materials, repair kits, and everything you need to get going.
You can earn 45% commissions on every sale, but as with any MLM, you can also earn money by recruiting other consultants and pick up 5% to 10% on their sales.
Paparazzi Jewelry Compensation Plan
The compensation plan for joining Parazzi Jewelry is pretty straightforward: the more people you recruit under you that make sales, the more money you will make.
This is true for any MLM, and Paparazzi Jewelry is no different in that regard.
As mentioned, you’ll receive 5-10% of the sales your “organization” (people you recruit to join Paparazzi Jewelry) make, and as these recruits add new people you’ll receive 2-3% of their sales and so on.
You can also qualify for some pretty hefty cash bonuses once you make it to the top levels of the program as seen here:
- Luxe Jetsetter – $25,000
- Impressionista – $50,000
Of course, in order to get to either of these levels and qualify for the cash bonuses, you’ll have to consistently maintain a PV (personal volume) of 250 (which is roughly 125 sales per month) and have an OV (organizational volume) of 1,000,000-1,500,000 (roughly 500,000-750,000 sales per month within your organization).
That might be a cakewalk for some, but for people like me, I just can’t even fathom being able to recruit that many people – let alone one!
All in all, their compensation plan is pretty standard compared to most MLMs with a few cool bonuses that are worth looking into.
Pros of Joining Paparazzi Jewelry
While I personally think most MLMs are lost money and broken dreams, I actually found a few things I like about the company.
Good Profit Margin
Earning 45% on a sale, even for $5, is a pretty good commission rate for an MLM (keep in mind, though, it’s still only less than 3 dollars per sale).
This high commission rate means that if you’re good at selling, you may never need to recruit anyone.
However, like all MLM’s, recruiting people is paramount to building a highly profitable business as one of their consultants.
Either way, a 45% commission rate per sale is decent even with the lower-value products.
It’s Somewhat Easier to Sell Their Products in Bulk to Customers
While generally speaking volume selling is a less desirable road compared to offering high-priced products, the $5 price level makes it easy to sell several items to customers (assuming they actually want to be sold to).
Those who host successful house parties (keyword: successful) may find themselves earning a considerable amount thanks to impulse buying.
Since the price is low for these jewelry pieces, people who are intent on buying from you might be more likely to buy several due to them feeling like they’re getting a great deal.
You Get a Wide Variety of Products
Paparazzi Jewelry offers many different products under the costume jewelry umbrella.
This actually enhances sales since a buyer might choose between rings, bracelets, necklaces, and more.
As I mentioned, it’s fairly common to have a customer scoop up several different items all in one purchase.
Cons of Joining Paparazzi Jewelry
As with any MLM, there are many reasons why joining this program might not be such a great idea.
Low Dollar Sales
While it may work well when selling in bulk, as I’ve already mentioned you’re still only making less than $2.50 per sale.
Unless you plan on bugging your friends and family or even strangers you meet at the store to buy your products, I don’t think this low commission rate will get you very far.
Large Emphasis on Hosting House Parties
Another potential drawback to selling Paparazzi Jewelry is the emphasis on hosting house parties.
For those who do not like face-to-face selling, this might be problematic because it is the best way to sell a lot of jewelry quickly.
Unfortunately, you may risk annoying your friends and family by inviting them to join another one of these sorts of MLM “house parties” that I’m sure they’ve all heard of or been invited to at some point.
The Verdict: Is Paparazzi Jewelry a Scam?
Simply put, no, Paparazzi Jewelry is not a scam.
It’s just an MLM company that relies heavily on signing up people in order to properly grow the business.
Whether or not this particular MLM is right for you ultimately boils down to your own interest in selling costume jewelry and building a business around it.
For those who love it and enjoy selling face-to-face, it has real potential as a money-maker.
You will need to sell a lot of jewelry, however, since the price is just $5 each.
With a 45% commission, that’s just under $2.50 per sale.
Even still, all those sales can really add up if you can master the art of face-to-face selling or breakthrough on the internet.
Alternatives to Paparazzi Jewelry
Still skeptical about joining Paparazzi Jewelry?
I don’t blame you – there are plenty of alternatives to joining this MLM that might work out better for you.
Personally, after having joined several different “business opportunities” and being left penniless, I’ve found more success utilizing other methods of selling products both online and offline.
Here are some of my favorite alternatives to joining an MLM that you could try yourself!
Sell Jewelry with Affiliate Marketing
One of the easiest and most profitable ways to make money online is through affiliate marketing.
If you’re not familiar with affiliate marketing, it’s a free way to get paid to advertise other people’s products.
If someone purchases a product after clicking your affiliate link (a link to a product page but with a tracking code that’s tied to your account), you will receive a commission.
With affiliate marketing, you don’t have to keep an inventory of products, ship the products yourself, or even talk to customers.
All of this is done by the company you’re promoting, your role is to simply advertise their products and get paid for your efforts.
How to Get Started with Affiliate Marketing
All you have to do to get started is sign up for the affiliate program for the specific website’s products that you wish to promote.
When I do a quick Google search for “costume jewelry affiliate” here are all the websites I found:
I visited Stella & Dot’s affiliate page and found they have a pretty great, straightforward commission rate for their products:
The best part about signing up for their program?
It’s free – just like all affiliate programs!
And you won’t have to try to get all your friends to join the program since that’s not how affiliate marketing works.
With affiliate marketing, think of yourself as a signpost pointing others to products they already want and get paid if they decide to buy them after clicking your link.
Utilize the Affiliate Dashboard
Once you sign up for an affiliate program, you are typically given access to an affiliate dashboard.
Within this dashboard, you’ll find tons of products to promote along with the links needed to share with potential customers.
Here’s a screenshot of an affiliate dashboard for CBD products that I promote on one of my blogs:
In order to grab the affiliate link needed for the product I want to promote, I simply click “Get code” and copy the tracking link:
I can now share this link on my blog, Facebook page, etc. and if somebody clicks the link and buys the product I get a commission!
Every affiliate dashboard is different, so it may take some research on your part to find the products and their affiliate links.
Typically, an affiliate manager will be assigned to your account to help you promote their products, so feel free to reach out to them if you have any questions.
Get Proper Training from Experts on Affiliate Marketing
There are literally thousands of articles and videos you can view to learn more about affiliate marketing, but one of the best training programs I have experienced firsthand is Wealthy Affiliate.
Their Affiliate Bootcamp Training helped me make the much-needed shift from direct selling to affiliate marketing.
They’ll walk you through the exact process needed to start promoting products the right way and trust me it’s worth learning this stuff from people who have been doing it for years.

Start a Drop Shipping Store Selling Costume Jewelry
While not quite affiliate marketing (or Paparazzi Jewelry for that matter), starting a drop shipping store can be another fantastic alternative to joining a multi-level marketing business.
Drop shipping is the process of shipping other people’s inventory to your own customers as if it’s your own.
In other words, you have your own online store that sells products and if somebody buys from you, rather than shipping to them directly you use the money they spent to buy the same product at a lower price from a different supplier and use your customer’s shipping information instead while keeping the difference as profit.
Thousands of companies, both large and small, use this exact method and have had great success with it.
In fact, Wayfair.com, a site I’m sure you’ve heard of, is a billion-dollar company that also utilizes drop shipping.
How to Get Started with Drop Shipping
The easiest way to get started is to sign up for a Shopify store and use the free plugin Oberlo.
Shopify offers a 14-day free trial, then after that, it’s $27 per month to host your own website on their platform.
Using Oberlo, you’ll be able to select the products you want to sell on your shopping website with ease.
Here’s a great video that will walk you through step-by-step how to set up your own drop shipping store:
Import Your Own Costume Jewelry
If you’re wanting to step out and start your own costume jewelry business where you get to work with the product suppliers yourself, house your own inventory and ship products to your customers personally, then importing your own costume jewelry might be the best option for you!
Admittedly, this method takes the most work compared to the other alternatives on this list, however, it also allows the most control and, potentially, higher profit margins.
For example, you can purchase products from a supplier for anywhere from $0.50-1 each and sell them for $8-10 each on sites like Amazon or Etsy.
Don’t believe me? I did a quick search on Amazon.com and found this gold layered necklace being sold for $8.99:
And this exact same necklace is available on Alibaba for $0.69-0.85 (depending on the volume you purchase):
That’s a profit margin of 90-92%!
How to Get Started Importing Your Own Jewelry
I have a ton of information on my blog that covers starting your own eCommerce business, but here are a few resources specifically that will help you learn how to import your own products:
- Jungle Scout Review – this is a review article I wrote for the product Jungle Scout which helps you find specific products worth selling on Amazon. You’ll learn how to find profitable products and a quick overview of how to find products on supplier websites. This is a great tool to utilize if you’re wanting to find costume jewelry to sell online.
- How to Find the Best Suppliers on Alibaba the Easy Way – a resource for people who want to learn exactly how to navigate Alibaba, the #1 product supplier website in the world, and how to find the best suppliers on the platform without getting scammed.
- Foundations: Start Building Your Amazon FBA Business in 5 Days – my free eBook for people who want to start building their own business importing products and selling them on Amazon. A fantastic resource for eCommerce newbies.
- eCommerce Empire – a premium course for people who are serious about starting their own online business importing products. I have personally gone through this course and I cannot recommend it more. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s worth every penny. Plus, there’s a 90-day money-back guarantee in case it doesn’t work out for you.
Start Your Own Jewelry Blog
Finally, one of the best ways to build a successful business is to start a blog based around a specific topic or niche – in this case, jewelry.
The simple concept behind making money with a blog goes like this:
Step 1: Create a website based around a topic you’re interested in.
Step 2: Write content based on this specific topic that others would find interesting. The more specific you are, the easier it usually will be for people to find your article in search engines (i.e. “6 Tips on How to Properly Clean Sterling Silver Jewelry”, “How to Make Breast Milk Jewelry Step-By-Step” [no idea what this is or if it’s even a thing, but I found that this term gets a lot of searches each month!]).
Step 3: Include relevant affiliate links within your content (i.e. if your blog post is based around sterling silver, join an affiliate program that sells sterling silver jewelry that you like and add the links to your article where it’s relevant. Don’t go overboard with these links as it can make your site appear spammy – just include one or two if they’re relevant).
Step 4: Share your article on social media with relevant hashtags.
Step 5: Repeat steps 2-4 at least once or twice a month.
Over time, if your content is good enough, it will be picked up by Google and you will appear in the search results pages.
This will then allow people to find your website and read your content without you having to pay anything for advertising.
In fact, if you want to see this method in practice, check out GemGossip’s blog.
I ran a quick audit of their site’s organic presence and here’s what I found:
Looking at the search volume (the number of times people search these terms each month) and high keyword positioning for their site (the exact position they rank organically in Google with 1-10 being the first page, 11-20 being the second page, etc.), you can see that they likely get several thousands of visitors each month.
And this is, in part, thanks to them writing consistent content that is both helpful and sharable.
How to Get Started Building Your Jewelry Blog
Setting up a website is easier than ever thanks to tools like Wix or Weebly.
However, my top recommendation as a web designer to truly build a website that will stand out amongst the competition is to use WordPress.
I’m not talking about WordPress.com’s free blogs, though those are definitely good, I’m talking specifically about the WordPress software CMS (content management system).
One of the best tools I’ve found that allows you to dive right into starting your blog with zero hassle using the WordPress software is Wealthy Affiliate’s SiteRubix.
All you have to do is type your website’s name into the field below and SiteRubix will walk you through how to set up your site.
If it takes more 5 minutes, I’ll buy you a cup of coffee:
In fact, I went ahead and created my own website on their platform as an example to show how simple it is: https://mlmsdebunked.siterubix.com/
Their Affiliate Bootcamp Training will also walk you through exactly how to set up your site properly, how to write engaging content, how to get real people to read, engage with, and comment on your articles, and how to ultimately get your content ranking in Google.
Final Word on My Paparazzi Jewelry Review
Building a successful business is definitely a challenge that many people fail at.
If you’re patient and are willing to put in the effort, you have a better chance of succeeding than most.
It’s OK to pivot to something new (though I don’t recommend doing it all the time as you could be experiencing shiny coin syndrome), but the worst thing you could do for your success is to give up when it’s hard.
If you’re dead set on joining Paparazzi Jewelry and have a bulletproof plan then, by all means, go for it.
However, keep in mind that there are plenty of alternatives out there that can make you just as much money and have a proven track record.
